1993 Audi CS90 Quattro in Ottawa, ON

Seller note:

Up for sale is a Canadian-spec 1993 Audi CS90 Quattro. It has a five gear manual mated with Audi?s tried and true 2.8L V6. She currently has just over 250,000 kms, or 156,000 miles.
Firstly, a little background.
Audi?s 90 was its offering to compete with the likes of the Mercedes 190E and the BMW E30 3-series. The CS90 version was the sportier of these cars: equipped with the V6 and the legendary Quattro AWD system, it was built as a fast, small executive saloon which could be driven in almost any conditions. It never became popular in North America, due to Audi's unfairly tarnished reputation resulting from the 5000's stuck-pedal fiasco and a lack of demand for AWD in most of the continent.
This particular car has quite a storied history: she was ordered by my father and delivered to Vienna, Austria through Audi?s Diplomatic Delivery Program in February 1993. From there, he drove her through Germany to Paris, France, where it spent the next 2 years, before being shipped to Montreal, Canada.
In 1995 she was shipped back to France, and spent the next 6 years there serving as a daily driver, mostly on the long B-roads in the Yvelines department. In 2001 she came back to Canada, where she?s been ever since. My father stopped using her as a daily driver in 2006, and as such she?s been a 3rd car, occasionally pre-owned only. He has been the only owner of this car since she was built. In the past 3 or so years, she?s been in a state of semi-retirement, taken out only about a few times a month, and largely parked as a result. She served very well in the winter, where the Quattro allowed her to carry us through everything we encountered. In France she was often the only car on the road in case of snow.
Everything about her is original, unrestored. As such, I offer her in 3 possible guises, or perhaps you may think of another use:
1. Project car, to be restored and/or upgraded (there was a plan for a 2.7T swap, however a lack of time put an end to that?I think it would give her a new lease on life). Those in the know are aware of the rare nature of this particular model, which might attract value and attention in the future
2. Parts car: I realise that this car is not in pristine shape: as such, if you are interested in building or restoring a early-90s Audi street or track car, she can definitely help you out in that regard
3. Daily driver/beater: again, with a modicum of work, she could be made to serve faithfully for a number more years
All this being said, the low asking price is a reflection of her state of late, as she?s been essentially laying mostly dormant through lack of need. I will give you the most accurate and honest diagnosis that I can; if you need clarification or have questions, call or message me, and I will be happy to provide both answers and additional images.
Overall, this car is in decent shape for its age and mileage. The sunroof, heated seats, all exterior lamps, front powered windows, power sunroof w/ tilt and lockable differentials all function perfectly. The chassis is in fine shape, and the car has never been in an accident (the rear hydraulic bumper was pushed in long ago, however this was professionally repaired and there is no damage whatsoever). The seats are not torn, however the driver?s left bolster, predictably, is somewhat saggy and faded. The car comes with both summer and winter tires, which will have to be replaced soon.
The main issues:
? The front bumper was damaged during her last transatlantic voyage, along with interactions with various potholes and at least 1 snowbank. It is cracked on the corner edges, and the clips and screws attaching it to the surround and frame need to be replaced; the foglights and headlamp-washer nozzles will have to be reconnected.
? The left wing mirror was knocked off by a bus, and glued on using some very ugly cement.
? The paintwork is shabby, victim of almost twenty years of use and a horrible partial respray a couple of years ago. It needs a redo in several areas.
? The interior, although not bad holistically, does have a couple of problem spots:
1. There is a small crack in the dash on the passenger side.
2. The fabric cover on the left-rear door is unfastened at the bottom, and some of the filler material has fallen out.
3. The original Blaupunkt radio broke 2 years ago, and it was replaced with a JVC headunit, however the speakers do not sound good at anything approaching loud volume (fine at low volume)
4. The 2 rear windows are non-functional. I?m told this is only because of a relay, but I haven?t had the time to investigate.
5. The gas gauge is only functional until ½-way. We have been using the trip odometer to evaluate its fill state (we can get about 500 kms/310 miles on a tank); also, although the thermometer works, its LCD display is somewhat cracked
6. The engine temperature gauge is non-functional (all dashboard electronics problems can be fixed with the replacement of a single controller, which requires removing the dash)
Mechanically, the car is essentially sound. It shifts well in all 5+ reverse gears. The engine pulls strongly in all gears, and the steering is fine. However, there have been a couple of ghost issues, which sometimes appear randomly. These are:
o The ?check engine? light will sometimes light up. According to the local Audi dealership, there is no tangible problem behind this. They suspect it?s a faulty sensor. Turning the engine off usually cures this.
o The engine has lately been overheating. This I suspect to be caused by a failing coolant pump or thermostat, although due to the irregular nature of this problem, I can?t be sure.
o The brakes will have to be serviced and/or replaced, as will the battery and original Audi allow rims.
I have a number of service records from its entire life available upon request.
